Poliankovo: art, travel and digital images beneath the Tatras
Not every Tatra outing needs a summit. At Poliankovo, images, sound and technology offer another way to explore nature — an interesting option for a gentler day from Silverton.

A gallery that starts a conversation about the world
Poliankovo in Tatranská Polianka combines art with digital presentation. It is neither a conventional museum of display cases nor a cinema where you stay seated. Moving between installations changes your viewpoint and experience. Projection, sound and interaction can draw attention to details overlooked in an ordinary photograph. It makes a contrast with strenuous trails while keeping nature and travel in view indoors. Give yourself time to observe rather than searching only for the next dramatic photograph.
Why Tatranská Polianka?
Opened in spring 2019, the gallery was deliberately connected with its Tatra setting. The village is associated with routes towards Sliezsky dom and mountain scenery; here, nature enters an interior through images. Technology is intended to bring the world closer, not replace it with unrelated effects. Compare your response to a phone-sized scene and a much larger image. Children may first notice motion and sound, adults the story; sharing reactions brings the perspectives together.
Dialogue with the Planet and Pavol Barabáš
The gallery’s current introductory material presents Dialóg s planétou, developed with traveller and documentary filmmaker Pavol Barabáš. It invites reflection on nature and expeditions beyond merely seeing distant places. Read explanations alongside the installations. You need not be an experienced traveller to ask what is unfamiliar in a scene and why it catches your attention. Programmes change, so confirm whether this exhibition is still showing on your date.
When illustrations begin to move
The organiser’s 2026 material also describes illustrator Katka Cermanová’s Tatranské žolíkové karty exhibition. Augmented reality animates images through a suitable app. Look at the illustration first, then use the extra layer: this makes it easier to notice what sound and movement contribute. Do not assume all older installations pictured online remain available. Digital exhibitions change too, and individual features may need staff assistance or maintenance. Current gallery information is more reliable than a film made several years ago.
Keeping a comfortable pace among images and sounds
Spend different amounts of time at different installations and skip effects that do not suit someone. Families can choose a few engaging scenes with short pauses. Anyone sensitive to strong sensory input should ask about the current exhibition and quieter visiting possibilities beforehand. Confirm access between levels for limited mobility too. Match the day to real needs rather than expecting one universal attraction for everyone. A conversation afterwards helps settle impressions; another intensive stop is unnecessary.
A café and a quieter ending
The café and shop let you finish without immediately returning to the car. Treat the break as a chance to compare favourite images, not a compulsory purchase. Has the exhibition changed how you see mountain nature? In good weather, add a short village walk. A demanding mountain route is different, requiring preparation and daylight. Poliankovo suits curiosity and rest; tightly packed onward bookings can undermine that quieter pace.
Your outing from Silverton, step by step
Before leaving Silverton, check current exhibitions, entry arrangements and hours, then plan the drive and parking. For rain, keep a version without an outdoor walk so the outing does not depend on improvement. After the gallery and a break, return without feeling obliged to fit three nearby attractions in. TrickLandia’s perspective games or Kežmarok’s original heritage can each make another day. A stable Silverton base lets you choose different regional experiences around weather and energy.
A suggested day plan
- Check Poliankovo’s current programme and admission, then plan the drive from Silverton.
- Explore at your own pace, pairing installations with their explanations.
- Pause in the café or take a short walk if conditions suit, then return without overcrowding the day.

Once you arrive
Park in a permitted place when you arrive. Plan the walk to the entrance, your stroll or your visit using the attraction guide. Allow for this separately from the drive.
Allow time for the return journey
Allow for the drive both ways, the whole visit or walking route, a meal and some spare time. Check admission and transport times, and decide when you will return to Silverton before setting off.
The button opens current driving directions. We do not give an unverified journey time. Check directions, conditions and attraction availability before setting off. Driving time does not include walking or the visit itself.
Before you set off
Is this the same attraction as TrickLandia?
No. They are separate galleries in different villages. Poliankovo focuses on digital presentation, art and travel, while TrickLandia centres more on optical play and perspective. Choose around the current programme and your interests, not similar names or a shared creator.
Is the exhibition always the same?
Do not assume so. Current introductory material describes Dialogue with the Planet and the Tatra card exhibition, but programming and access can change. Confirm directly if a particular installation is your reason for travelling. Old photographs do not guarantee today’s layout.

Is it a good rainy-day choice with children?
It can suit children curious about images, movement and interaction if the pace and sensory intensity work for them. Check current entry rules and programming, and discuss particular needs. Include a break afterwards. A good day need not use every installation or add another gallery.
